L'Oreal Paris Infallible Matte Foundation £7.99

I must admit other than my (Bourjois) cc cream I haven't worn a drugstore foundation in about 5 years for no reason other than the more high end ones I have converted to just perform better than the drugstore ones I have tried. When L'Oreal released their Infallible Matte foundation and the blogosphere went ablaze with reviews I said to myself I wasn't going to buy it but when i was in Superdrug picking up some essentials I ended up going against what I had said, chucked it in my basket and asked myself if so many girls could be wrong about this foundation.

So a little background on my skin, it's oily/combination and I have some light acne scarring (although no new breakout's) so you'd think this would be ideal for my skin type as it offers a matte finish which still has some life to it, right? Wrong. This is probably the thickest foundation I have ever used, it sets so quickly that you barely have time to blend it properly and it did not feel like it offered the natural finish it proclaims to. I enjoyed the primer, it has a silicone, gel kinda feel to it which I'm used to after using similar formulas and it did reduce the shine on my skin slightly. I like to apply my foundation with my fingers and then blend with a damp Beauty Blender, the most annoying thing that I found about this foundation was that it just lifted off with the slightest touch of my sponge so a second layer is a no-no and applying concealer under my eyes and trying to blend out just made the whole situation worse. I ended up taking the whole lot off and applying my regular foundation. I picked the shade 'Vanilla' which seemed a good match for me inshore however on it looks so red, I honestly looked like I was holding my breath!

Can't say I'm hugely surprised or disappointed in this foundation, this is the reason I stopped buying drugstore foundations all those years ago, they really are like marmite. Have you tried this foundation, did you find you had similar issues?

NARS Light Reflecting Pressed Setting Powder

You may have seen a recent post of mine in which I proclaimed my love for Bourjois 123 Perfect CC Cream but having oily skin I was struggling with quite a bit of shine (not the CC creams fault, it's a hydrating formula and I have over oily skin) and the setting powder I was using just wasn't cutting it. I have stayed away from powders since my teens, all the ones I have tried have left me with a chalky finish and taken away the glow of my foundation underneath, all but this one.

Everything about this product screams quality right from the signature NARS packaging to the formula itself. Initially when I swiped my brush over the powder it seemed hard and that my brush wasn't picking anything up only when I brushed the formula over my face could I see the effect. The powder is so finely milled that you struggle to see it on your brush and is traceless on your skin. Although this powder sets my makeup and reduces shine it leaves a luminous finish and not at all chalky. The product comes in a handy little pouch with a small sponge type applicator for touch-ups on the go. I may have not used a setting powder in years but I know I have found my holy grail powder here.

NARS is a relatively new brand to me, do you have any recommendations? 

Favourite Spring Base | Bourjois 123 Perfect CC Cream

After a nursing my skin back to health after a really bad bout of acne two years ago I have happily stepped away from the foundation and gravitated towards lighter bases. After reading so many great reviews on this CC cream but never having my skin in the place to try it this was my first choice for a lighter base.

Bourjois CC cream contains 3 colour correcting pigments to help level out skin tone, apricot for anti-fatigue, green for anti-redness and white for anti-dark spots. The formula is quite runny and I was not expecting it to give the level of coverage it does, one layer eliminates the redness I suffer from on my cheeks and evens out my tone.

I still apply concealer under my eyes as they are quite dark and find I have to set with a little powder as my skin can get quite oily in this warmer weather but I absolutely love the finish, it's so glowy and light. I like to apply with my fingers and then blend with a damp Beauty Blender and the result is so natural you can barely tell I'm wearing anything. The only thing I will say is that the shade I bought (Light) will be a problem for people with fair skin, I'm using fake tan at the moment meaning it's a perfect match but I definitely wouldn't get away with this in the winter as it's quite dark.

I'm definitely a convert. I can get just as much longevity from this CC cream as from any foundation I own and the coverage is better than some of the higher-end foundations in my stash.

Nars Sheer Glow Foundation | Gobi | Review

The blogosphere erupted with rave reviews when this foundation was released and every girl and her dog rushed out to buy it, a little late to the party I know but I purchased it a few weeks ago and feel I should give an honest review of this 'miracle foundation'.

Ok so firstly despite being called 'Sheer Glow' the foundation is not sheer, but described by many a reviewer as a medium-buildable foundation. Unless in my years of foundation application experience I am missing something, I did not find this foundation was build-able. Despite many saying one layer covers scars and blemishes I found it provided little coverage and when I tried to go back over my face for a second layer the foundation just moved around and looked patchy.

Although this foundation is recommended for normal, normal-dry and dry skin types I found this foundation to stick to dry areas I never even knew I had! I have normal/combination skin at times, this foundation after a few hours of wear separates and leaves me looking like an oil slick.

The shade Gobi is absolutely perfect for me (I usually wear MAC NC15) but unfortunately this foundation in my books is a huge disappointment. After trying various combinations of primers, finishing powders and tools for application I just can't get the results that so many people have raved about.

Rimmel Match Perfection Foundation in Ivory Swatch and Review

After seeing the glowing complexion of one of my favourite Instagrammers and asking which foundation she was wearing I rushed out and purchased Rimmel's Match Perfection foundation rrp £6.99 and I have to say it's a pretty good foundation!

Match Perfection is a medium buildable foundation that leaves you with a luminous, glowy finish. I went for the shade Ivory which I will say isn't as pale as I thought it would be, not a great match for me being as it's the winter but come spring when the tanning products come back out it will be a great match.

I did find I had to powder my nose and chin a little but I have quite oily skin so that was a given. I like the fact it contains an SPF of 18 and the bottle contains a pump making dispensing it so much easier. The formula is quite fluid and doesn't set really quickly which means you have time to apply and blend. I found the best results came from using my Beauty Blender, it really did leave a lovely finish. If like me you suffer from blemishes and scars you will need a touch of concealer but the foundation does a surprisingly good job on its own.

Laura Mercier Silk Creme Foundation in Soft Ivory Swatch and Review

After reading tons of blog posts and reviews on Laura Mercier Silk Creme Foundation a few weeks ago I decided to take the plunge and splurge my hard earned £34 on it and here's my thought's on it...

The foundation itself, as you can see, is housed in a handy tube and you get a generous 35ml of product. 

The colour guide on  the back of the tube doesn't completely match the shade of the product itself as some other ladies had said it did with their shade, I was expecting Soft Ivory to be a tad more yellow toned than it is, but it's not a bad match for my pale skin at this time of the year.

Ok, so onto the foundation itself. Now I have moderately blemished skin, not a constant flurry of acne but quite a few acne scars on my chin and jawline and the most appealing aspect of this foundation were the claims of being medium-full coverage, at best I would say this foundation is medium coverage and doesn't have the build-ability I had heard it does. As for the claims of 'blendable formula that glides on easily' I couldn't agree less, even using Laura Mercier's Foundation Primer and trying to apply the foundation with either my Beauty Blender, Buffing brush or fingers I still couldn't get an even finish. When I did get a satisfactory finish it only lasted for an hour or so, it certainly didn't live up to its claims of being 'long-wearing and a fresh look that lasts all day' after 3 hours the foundation separated and left my skin looking oily and blotchy.

I really wanted to love this foundation and I've tried everything I can to get a half decent finish but it just does not live up to my MAC Studio Fix Fluid and I feel absolutely gutted at parting with £34 for a foundation that will just lay in a drawer. 

Trial-Sized Tuesday's - Premae Mattifying Mousse Foundation Shade 01 Tapioca

I've been meaning to do a post on this wonderful foundation from my favourite skincare brand Premae for a little while now, it really has everything you could want from a base. If you read my blog regularly you will know my deep love for Premae's natural and vegan skincare products and when I heard they were releasing their first foundation I was more than excited!

MM Foundation rrp £29 is an allergy-friendly foundation meaning it's great for sensitive or acne prone skin like mine and is packed with skin-loving ingredients that actively care for your skin whilst you are wearing it. I requested a sample of shade 01 Tapioca which is a perfect colour match for my fair (NC15) skin.

The formula is quite unexpected, it's rich and creamy yet light like mousse and I found it easiest to apply with my Real Techniques Expert Face brush, working in small areas. The finish is matte yet not unnatural looking, allowing your skins natural glow to peep through. 

MM Foundation gives medium/full coverage and I found I didn't require as much concealer in the places as I normally would. This foundation is so completely natural and packed with skin-loving ingredients that you could, not that I would, sleep in it...now if a foundation is good enough for your skin to sleep in it what does that say!?

My sample recently ran out but I certainly will be requesting the full size product in my next Premae Donna Box!

Trial-Sized Tuesday's - BareMinerals BareSkin Pure Brightening Serum Foundation Review And Swatch

A couple of weeks ago I received a sample of BareMineral's newest foundation BareSkin Pure Brightening Serum. I was really excited to try it as I've not really tried a lot of products by BareMinerals and the hype surrounding this foundation is quite big, so here's how I got on with it. Described as 'an ultra-thin silky texture' I couldn't agree more. I was surprised at how much coverage it provided for such a light foundation, it did glide on like a serum. 'One to two weightless drops transform, soften and smooth the appearance of your complexion' yes and no. For someone like me who has a bit of redness on the cheeks and quite a bit of acne scarring you'd definitely need more than one to two drops of foundation. It did look great on the areas of my face that need little coverage but I found I couldn't layer the foundation very well, due to it's serum type texture I ended up just moving the foundation underneath rather than layering it. I received a sample in the shade 'Bare Ivory' which was quite a good match, a little on the orange side (I'm off the self tan now we're stepping into autumn). My main bug bare with this foundation was the fact that anything I tried to layer on top of it be it my concealer or blusher just seemed to move the foundation underneath, it just wasn't settling into my skin! I don't suffer from dry skin, it used to be terribly oily however nowadays, blemishes aside, it is quite normal but after a few hours of wear the foundation went all weird and blotchy around my nose and mouth as if stuck to dry skin. As you probably can tell from my review I'm not a fan of this foundation. This foundation would be suitable for someone with normal skin who needs very little to no concealer for blemishes (in which case if that were me I wouldn't be wearing any foundation!). Foundation for me is a case of 'better the devil you know'...every time I get a little bored or something new comes out and I try it I'm usually disappointed and always turn back to my trusty MAC Studio Fix Fluid.

Trial-Sized Tuesday's - Bobbi Brown BB Cream

I'm not one for BB Creams. Every single one I've tried has been totally off colour, most feel thick and greasy and they do very little for me coverage wise. I understand that BB Creams are not there to give you complete coverage, they are in essence a product that contains skincare and makeup in one package. 

I received a sample of Bobbi Brown's BB Cream in my last online order and I will admit when I got it out of the drawer to try yesterday I was on the fence without even trying it due to the poor experiences I've had with them before. I am pretty impressed with the ingredients this product contains-moisturiser, SPF 35 and foundation. There are 9 shades available in the range, I received the Shade 'Light' which is quite a good match for my skin.

This BB applied a lot better than others I have tried. Yes it feels like a creamy foundation but it doesn't sit on the skin like a greasy moisturiser it settles in and leaves skin quite glowy. I did find that I had to go back over with concealer for blemishes and acne scars, but I have to do this with most foundations so that's not biggy.

Whilst this is the best BB Cream I've tried so far I'm still on the fence about them in general. For someone with not particularly great skinI feel that if I'm going to go through the effort of wearing make-up I like to wear something with more coverage and a more perfect finish. This would be a great product for someone with relatively good skin, just to add a bit of colour and glow but sadly I feel it's just not for me.

August's Birchbox - Contents And Review

This month's Birchbox contains a selection of products with the thought of getaway's in mind.  The products selected are some great travel essentials including a leave-in conditioner, perfect for sun damaged hair and a mineral-infused exfoliator to help you brighten and prolong that tan. So lets take a closer look at my box's contents...

Vasanti Brighten Up! Enzymatic Face Rejuvenator  is an aloe-infused exfoliator that targets clogged pores and any dry, flaky skin. Suitable for even sensitive skin due to the tiny exfoliating crystals and creamy texture this face scrub is guaranteed to leave you with glowing skin. The sample was a generous size, I can see I will get a good 3-4 uses from it. I really enjoyed using this product, I'm not convinced enough to purchase the full size as I currently use a cheaper but equally as good product, but it's definitely a nice treat for the skin.

Numer 4 Lumiere d'Hiver Comb Prep & Protect has got to be my favourite product from this month's box. Not only does it smell absolutely gorgeous but it left my hair so soft after using it last night. I have naturally curly hair which at times can be a little course without the right products and this product really de-tangled my hair tamed my frizziness. Another reason it gets a big thumbs up from me is that it's 100% paraben-free and sulphate-free meaning that it's genuinely conditioning your hair and not just sealing the shaft with silicones giving the appearance of glossier hair. I definitely will go on to purchase the full-size product.

The product that I was most looking forward to trying but actually turned out to be, in my opinion, the worst product in the box was Supergoop Daily Correct CC Cream. The sample sizes were ok, enough to get 2-3 uses, but the product itself was very disappointing. First thing I noticed when squeezing it out of the tube was the colour, for a CC cream that is supposed to be for fair/medium skin tones it has incredibly red undertones. At the moment I wear NC20 and this was far too dark and red for even my tanned skin. Secondly the texture was horrible. This product is described as lightweight and velvety but I have to say it felt heavy and greasy on my skin. Big thumbs down from me on this one!

Dead Sea Spa Magik Refreshing Shower Gel  in my first initial opinion is a bit meh. Sure a shower gel of some form is a travel essential but I would have preferred something a bit more luxurious and fragrant...something to take you back to that place you holidayed when you use it! This multipurpose product can either be poured in to a running bath or used lathered in the shower and with it's pure minerals from the Dead Sea it's guaranteed to be good for your skin.

Another product I was looking forward to trying but a bit bummed out because if the shade I received was the Wild About Beauty Powder Eyeshadow. I received shade 01 Paradise, a highly-pigmented gold eyeshadow. I find it a little hard to get excited about this product purely due to the colour I received however the packaging is beautiful and there are a great selection of wearable colours in the line so I may purchase I shade I like to road test it properly.

The lifestyle extra is this months box was a chapter from a romantic novel titled The Proposal by Tasmina Perry. When I have a little spare time I may have a quick flick through it, however romances aren't really my thang!

A bit of a meh box this month in my opinion. As much as I've enjoyed using the prep & protect spray and exfoliator I really could have done without all of the products I received and probably would have liked to have seen some more beauty products or fragrances.

Yves Saint Laurent Le Teint Touche Èclat Foundation Review

I must warn you before you carry on reading that I have included photos of me before applying the foundation and it is not a pretty sight!

After falling in love with the iconic Touche Eclat highlighter from Yves Saint Laurent I have been mulling over purchasing their Le Teint Touche Eclat Foundation and last week I coughed up the cash and purchased it. 

Yves Saint Laurent have transposed the magic of their legendary highlighter into this foundation to achieve the same effects of their highlighter only all over your face! The unique formula of this foundation targets shadowy areas and enhances the complexion with light.

Without foundation my skin is pretty yucky at the moment, I had a bad breakout a couple of weeks ago which has left me with some acne scarring and as you can see I have some broken capillaries around my nose. I'm naturally quite pale and use fake tan regularly (except for my face when I'm having a bad breakout) and the shade BD20 matched my body perfectly. I was quite concerned when I initially squeezed a pump of the foundation out as is is quite runny, however as you can see one layer covered my face quite well!

This was the finished result, I did go back over my most troublesome areas (my jawline) with a second layer of foundation and then applied some concealer to the most prominent spots and the results are quite flawless! This foundation really does what it says on the tin, it gives a dewy finish without looking sticky or shiny.

After around 6 hours of wear I was getting a bit shiny on my t-zone so next time I use it I'm going to try it with a mattifying primer and maybe a light dusting of powder (I have oily/combination skin so I get oily even with the most matte foundations). For shade reference BD20 is an exact match for the NC15 shade I wear in MAC's Studio Fix Fluid. I tried applying with a flat foundation brush (as most reviews said worked best) and my RT Expert Face brush but I found applying it with my Beauty Blender gave the most airbrushed results.

I would highly recommend this foundation to anyone that is looking for something illuminating to perk up a dull complexion...this really is an all-over highlighter for the face!

Wow, where did April go? Yet again it was quite difficult to chose, as I have tried some fabulous products this month, so I thought I would go with the ones that I'm reaching for everyday. Here's a quick run-through of my favorite beauty and skincare products from April...

Astalift Light Analyzing Moisture Foundation  £29 30ml

I absolutely adore this foundation, it's the first medium to full coverage foundation I have found with a dewy, luminous finish. I chose the shade Sunny Beige after much deliberation, there are hardly any reviews on this foundation online...which shocks me as it's amazing! Here's a link if you want to read my full review on this foundation.

MAC Prep+Prime Natural Radiance Primer  £29 50ml

A fabulous illuminating primer which creates a flawless base for foundation and leaves skin looking healthy and renewed. Here's a link to my full review of this primer, trust me it's fabulous...a make-up bag must have for me now!

Molton Brown Rhubarb & Rose Hand Cream £10 40ml

 This hand cream literally smells good enough to eat! I first tried this after receiving a sample of it in my March Birchbox and I'm now hooked! It leaves hands moisturized without feeling greasy and lightly fragranced with the scent of rhubarb and rose...divine! Other than the cream itself I love the packaging Molton Brown products come in, cute enough to brighten up any handbag.

Premae Lab Definitive Eye Creme £17.50 30ml

I received a generous sample of this specialist eye creme in my April Premae Donna Box and I can honestly say I've not even looked at my Bobbi Brown Hydrating Eye Cream since! What I love about this eye creme is that it's lightweight, yet very moisturizing and acts as a fabulous primer for my eye concealer.  I've ordered a full size for my May Premae Donna box...post to follow!

Triumph Creme Balm £49 50ml

Another pick from my April Premae Donna Box is this fabulous anti-aging creme. I've been using this for a little over 3 weeks and my skin is already looking and feeling more renewed. This creme is packed full of antioxidants and vitamins, I apply before bed and it makes my skin so soft when I wake. Here's a link to my full review and product description. 

Clinique Chubby Stick in Two Ton Tomato £17

I have a real thing for red lipstick's, they are my go-to lip colour when I can't decide what to wear on my lips. Now we're moving into warmer weather I like to switch up my lipsticks for tinted balms or stains and Clinique's Chubby Stick in Two Ton Tomato is fabulous for this. Its a sheer tinted balm which can be built up to a medium intensity. Not only do they look great on your lips but they look great in your make-up bag!

Astalift Light Analyzing Moisture Foundation Review and Swatches

Let me start off by saying this foundation is INCREDIBLE! I can't believe how few reviews I could find on the internet about it.

I had been recommended this foundation by another blogger after saying I was still searching for my holy grail foundation, I wanted something with medium-full coverage but a dewy, luminous finish...Light Analyzing Moisture Foundation by Astalift delivers just this.

A couple of weeks ago I contacted Astalift to request some samples of their foundation to match my colour perfectly before committing to purchasing a full size. They sent me samples of the shades Sand and Caramel, I didn't even attempt the Caramel shade as Sand was way too dark for me...but I fell in love with the coverage and finish. I contacted them again and they said the only paler shade sample they had in stock was Ivory, the colour wasn't a bad match but I have quite yellow undertones in my skin so it wasn't the best match. Earlier this week I spotted that their foundation was half price so I decided to take the plunge and purchase the shade Sunny Beige and I'm pleased to say it is a perfect match!!

Sunny Beige is suitable for paler skin with yellow undertones, I would say this shade is very similar to my MAC Studio Fix Fluid in NC15.

MAC Pro Longwear Foundation Review and Swatches

 I adore my current foundation, the colour match is perfect and the formula gives me a healthy, matte finish but as the weather is getting warmer I have been looking for something a little more long lasting and non-transferable, my current foundation is great for around 8 hours but by the afternoon it often starts to get a little blotchy looking around my nose and mouth. After reading some great reviews I decided to purchase MAC Pro Longwear Foundation £25. The foundation claims to give up to 15 hours of wear even in hot and humid conditions, controls oil to keep skin flawless and contains SPF 10.

I purchased this foundation two weeks ago (online) and when I pulled it out of the box my first reaction was that the shade was far too warm for me. I purchased MAC Pro Longwear Foundation in the shade NC15 as this is my usual shade in the Studio Fix Fluid that I wear, in comparison to the Studio Fix it is less yellow toned and I thought it just would not be wearable but after a couple of plays around with the type of application it is actually quite a good colour match.

 Now when I initially tried to apply the Pro Longwear I used my Real Techniques Expert Face brush, as this brush gives me flawless results when using Studio Fix but I found the Pro Longwear to initially come out of the bottle quite thick and oily and the brush was just moving the foundation around my face and not buffing it in to my skin. After reading some more reviews about how people get the best application results it seemed the general consensus was to use a damp beauty blender. I purchased the Real Techniques Miracle Sponge £5.99 and the application was so much easier!

This foundation is a sheer to medium formula, I did find it quite difficult to build up layers as before it sets to a natural matte finish it is quite an oily feeling texture but if you work in small areas quickly the results are quite flawless! What I did like about this foundation is that you have no need for concealer as you can just spot apply with a detailing brush where needed. The finish as I've said is a natural matte looking finish, like skin only better! This foundation definitely lives up to it's claims of being long-wearing, I took the photo above after roughly 8 hours of wear and it was showing no signs of budging. 

So, if you're looking for a long-wearing foundation I would definitely recommend this one after mastering my techniques for application.

If you follow my blog you will know I don't have perfect skin. Having PCOS I am prone to the occasional acne flare-up and I keep to a strict cleansing, toning and moisturising routine (Premae's Immaculate Collection) morning and evening to try and keep the oil build-up at bay and prevent those yucky little white pimples from rearing their ugly heads! So, as I don't have the best skin I am constantly searching for products to give me the effect of perfect skin. 

Before being diagnosed with PCOS I hadn't been so particular about what I put on my face, although I've always had quite wide pores on my cheeks and I had oily skin to battle with, I never sought the aid of a primer to help the finish or longevity of foundation as I never wore it! It's only since the acne flare-up's in the last couple of years and the subsequent scarring that I have been on the look out for that little bit of extra help. 

For the last year or so I have been using Mac Prep+Prime Skin. Its a more of a fluid primer that aids the lay down of your foundation and powder by calming and soothing the skin, thus evening out skin redness. I enjoy using this primer, it's very easy to apply, it really does help my foundation to blend and it causes no irritation to my skin whatsoever. As much as I love it, it does nothing in the way of disguising the large pores on my cheeks. 

A couple of weeks ago, after searching the internet for alternative primers I came across Smashbox Photo Finish Primer. Now I know it's been out there for a while, I had seen it in department stores and online myself but as I said I am new-ish to primers and had never really been on a quest for one as I am now. Reading the reviews I was so excited to order it! Girls were referring to it as "Polyfiller for your face" a "Cult classic for a reason" and that they just couldn't live without it. I've found it, I've found what I've been searching for I thought and quickly added it to my basket and checked-out. The next couple of days were torture waiting for it to arrive in the post! I dreamt me and this "Polyfiller" primer would have a whirlwind affair, pore-less and totally flawless. I imagined sitting at my desk at work on Monday morning looking completely flawless even under the harsh artificial lighting. You can imagine my disappointment when this is not what I achieved....

The primer itself is easy and smooth to apply to the skin, it has a silicone feel like my Mac Prep+Prime. My foundation blended well over the top of it, there really was no trace of the primer being on. I can't say that it aided the longevity of my foundation nor did it keep me oil-free, after 4-5 hours I still needed to blot my face, the same as any other day. Unfortunately it did not give me a flawless look, nor was it Polyfiller to my lines or pores...instead after 2 days of using it I had an awful flare-up of nasty, sore spots over my chin and jawline. So into the drawer this primer goes....

I'm not giving this primer a bad review as you can quite clearly see from the tons of reviews it is a "Cult classic for a reason"...lots of girls love it. So while the dream of a whirlwind affair may have frazzled my quest for perfection continues....
